Time to Show Up
    by Sharon Hanek

There are many ways we can “show up” and face our legislators.  Our actions will depend on our individual comfort zones and lifestyles.  The key to being effective is to take action and not remain silent.  It is important to voice our opinion because each phone call, email, letter, or meeting we attend becomes a “tick mark” and when it comes to voting time the “tick marks” DO ADD UP!  Know that the opponents to your side of an issue are probably SHOWING UP IN LARGE NUMBERS!  IT IS TIME FOR US TO SHOW UP AND BE COUNTED!

Please do one or more of the following and contact your two Representatives and one Senator.  Be sure to clearly write the bill number and the position you want them to take in the header of the email and at the top of your letters.

Email your legislators

Phone call to the HOTLINE  1-800-562-6000

Phone call to the offices of your legislators

Write a letter or send a postcard to your legislators

Visit the offices of your legislators while they are in Olympia and  when they are in their districts.

Go to hearings and meetings – just show up, testify if you want

If a bill is important to you please email, call, and write every member of the committee that is hearing the bill in addition to your own legislators.

The “Bill Summary” page will give you detailed information on the status of a bill and which committee to contact.

A bill list of important issues in progress can be found at ResearchMom.  Click on the title of the bill to view the “Bill Summary” page. Feel free to email edresearch@hotmail.com with any questions you have.
