September, 2007 Ah - September, warm days and cool nights. It is a time for the kids to go back to school. It is a time when many of our clubs return from their summer breaks. And it is also the time for intense campaigning by our Republican Candidates. As we enter into the campaign season we need to roll up our sleeves and get to work. I know that many of you are thinking, but it is too early for the 2008 campaign season to start. Have I got a Newsflash for you! ! It has been going on for a while now. It is now time for the rest of us to get started. Many of your areas have local elections coming up, in fact, in some areas the primaries have already taken place. Your local candidates need your help! They need you to do what ever you can to give them that edge that they need to win. It might be stuffing envelopes, going doorbelling, making phone calls. All of these things can really make a difference between a candidate winning or losing. It is not too early for you to be making plans for the 2008 election cycle. Growing your club membership will really be a big step in the right direction. As you have heard me say before, all hands on deck can make the difference between keeping the White House and losing it. The difference between taking back Congress or not taking it back. Remember ladies, one of the main missions of WFRW is to help get Republicans elected. Speaking of growing, we are doing very well. With the addition of the Republican Women of Grant County we are now at 1310 members. This is just a few less than what we ended with last year. I feel very confident that we will surpass the 1321 we ended with last year very shortly. We are also expecting at least 1 or 2 more clubs to join us this fall. I think that this is really exciting. It is wonderful to watch women from all over the state and different walks of life come together with common interests and goals. As I write this I am getting ready, as are many of you, to attend the NFRW National Convention in Palm Springs. Once again, I want to encourage as many of you as can to attend. I remember that this is how I really became involved with Women in Politics. A couple of my friends and I attended the NFRW Convention in Seattle in 1999. None of us were delegates, we went as spectators. I was truly inspired by what we heard and saw. When we came home, we started our local club. You can learn so much, even if you are not a delegate! I am also looking forward to our WFRW Board of Directors Meeting on October 26 & 27 in Gig Harbor. I hope that you will all plan to attend. We will be having our first ever WFRW sponsored Campaign School. I know that Eileen Sobjack, our 1st VP over programs, is working very hard to put this together. She is also working at getting us exciting and interesting speakers. One of the issues that we will be discussing at our meeting is the Redistricting of a couple of our WFRW districts, especially the Eastern District. By doing this we hope to make it easier for our District Directors to be available to help the clubs. I hope to see you all there. Lastly, I just wanted to thank those who have contributed to our “Non-Event” Event. If you or your club have not yet done so, it is NOT too late. It is really easy, no work -- just send in a check. These donations will not only help meet the needs of the Federation, but will also aid in getting Republicans elected. Remember, together we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE ! ! Thanks again for all that you do for WFRW. All of your work is seen and very much appreciated. With all best wishes,
