About Us
Our History
In 1944, the WFRW was formed under the leadership of former Washington State Republican Party National Committeewoman Della Urquhart from Yakima and affiliated with the NFRW in 1945. In 1999, WFRW was honored to serve as the host state when the NFRW biennial convention was held in Seattle. The WFRW currently has 28 clubs and more than 1,000 primary members, with over 90,000 volunteer hours devoted to Republican candidates and causes and an untold number of hours on community service projects.
WFRW membership includes Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, former Chair of the House Republican Conference and now the Republican leader on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. She is the first woman to hold this position. Many of our Washington Republican legislators join the WFRW as members and associates.
One of the highlights of the WFRW activities is the annual Day at the Capitol, where 100+ ladies in red jackets converge upon the Capitol building during the legislative session. This annual visit has a positive impact on the legislators each year!
WFRW clubs are also very active in local community service and give scholarships, hold essay contests, distribute copies of the Constitution, and participate in the dictionary project. They provide backpacks of school supplies and help with calling cards for families of deployed military, and care packages for our troops.
Local Membership
Joining a local club is a great way to participate in the political process at the grassroots level, develop leadership skills, and network with women in your community. As a member of the Washington Federation of Republican Women, YOU are a vital part of the grassroots political organization with 28 Republican women's clubs spread throughout the state, including a virtual club.
Local Republican women's clubs throughout Washington State are part of the largest women's political group nationwide. Local clubs are chartered under the bylaws of the Washington Federation of Republican Women (WFRW) and the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). Members of local clubs are automatically members of their state federation and the National Federation of Republican Women.
Dues at the local level vary but include state and national membership dues. Included with these memberships, you will have access to website resources and receive communications from both WFRW and NFRW. Associate Members: Men, and women belonging to more than one Federated Club, can be non-voting Associate Members. Dues for Associate Members vary by club.
