Caring for America
The NFRW established the Caring for America program to energize and encourage states and clubs to actively support and promote at least one existing community service program, or to initiate a new project to fill an existing need in the community.
The Caring for America program is based on the belief that problems can be solved most effectively through the generosity and combined energies of individual citizens.
Caring for America ideas:
Support a local food bank, support a VA hospital, volunteer at a soup kitchen, participate in an Arbor Day, Parks Appreciation Day, Teach new mother mothering skills, teach English or Citizenship classes, collect donations for Thanksgiving, Christmas, provide constitutions or dictionaries to elementary students, make fleece blankets, hats for infants, children, elderly or homeless, create a thank you program for first responders in your community. Participate in a counter drug program, help at a the underprivileged with toiletries. Send Christmas cards and care packages to our service men and women stationed over seas or to veterans, living locally at the VA hospitals and senior facilities.
Please visit www.justserve.org for local service projects in your area.
Keep track of your volunteer hours. The NFRW presents the Caring for America Awards every two years to recognize successful projects that demonstrate significant value to the community. This awards program is overseen by the NFRW Caring for America Committee.

Apples to Wheat ~ #WAFarms.
Even though WA state is the # 1 US producer of apples and the # 3 US producer of wheat, and one of the leading exporters of agricultural products in the country, the challenges that our local farms face in a global marketplace are adding up. Many farms are struggling with increased costs, burdensome regulations and water issues.
This CFA project is an opportunity to bring awareness and advocacy of our farms to membership. We can share the joy of buying and eating local foods and promote activities and legislation that supports farming.
Watch this recently released video (about 25 min) regarding a third-generation farming family in Whatcom county who had to let their farm go. You may be surprised what you learn. Losing The Farm
Clubs are encouraged to participate in anyway they can. Some suggested ideas are:
>Adopt or sponsor a local farmer: Invite them to speak at a meeting
>Have a Farmers Market with food/product samples
>Tour a local farm - invite family, friends, children
>Share recipes with ingredients from local farms
>Invite speakers from the agricultural and farming community
>Invite lawmakers to speak on agricultural and farming policies
>Promote commenting and testifying on ag/farm bills
Clubs should keep track of the activity, hours spent and lots of photos for reporting later.
